Buddy Time with A2

We had fun today spending our first session with our buddy class.  Our buddy class  is called A2 and they are in Year 4.  They are part of the middle school and their teacher is Mr O'Sullivan.   We will do lots of fun things with them this year.

This Morning Mr O'Sullivan took us out for fitness.  We got given 2 buddies each since there are only 9 of us so far, and lots of them!  Our buddies helped us to learn a game called 'Link Up'.  We had to follow the leader, and follow the instructions that Mr O'Sullivan called out.  We were lucky to have our amazing buddies to help us learn how to play.   After lunch we went to A2 and read our buddies our reading book that we did in class today.  We told our buddies what the title was and who wrote the story.  We talked about the pictures.  

We showed our buddies how we point to each word as we read using our magic pointing finger, and our buddies helped us with the tricky words.  

We were very lucky because then our buddies read our reading book to us.  We will read like superstars tonight at home!

After we read with our buddies, Mrs Graham read A2 and E6 a funny story about a Witch who had to make room on her broom for a dog, a cat, and a frog. 

Before we went home today we talked about what we liked best about spending time with our buddy class.

My buddy was so kind helping me read words I don't know yet - Riya.


I really liked going to Mr O'Sullivan's class and playing a game but his whistle was noisy like the bell and gave me a fright! - Emily.


I was feeling scared about going to see the big kids but when we got there we had a happy time and I liked reading a story with them - Angelina.


I think I had 4 big buddies in A2.  They helped me play a cool game and even let me be the leader and that was so cool.  I will say 'hello buddy' when I see my buddy tomorrow. - Hunter.


I love my buddy and I want to find my buddy at lunch time to play with - Ashley.

Junior Sports

This afternoon E6 went out to the field to take part in the junior school athletics sports rotation.   

This week our athletic skills included long jump, shot put and high jump.  it was a beautiful summery day, and we had a great time with our year 2 buddy class, B4.

Ashley uses her muscles to throw the shot put as 

far as she can!

Riya took a big run up before she turned her body around to land on the high jump pad.

Hunter had great fun learning to turn his body after taking off on the right foot.

It was confusing working out which leg we'd need to scissor kick first.  We all laughed so much as we twisted and fell onto the pad!  

We will have to keep practicing our high jump scissor kick and run up during the week!

Quadblogging!

We have had some amazing comments left on our blog posts this week.  There are lots of people from America looking at our blog!  We have so many stars on our map.  We are very excited.

E6 Super Star Readers

We have been working so hard at learning to read during our first four weeks at school.  We have to concentrate hard and it can be tiring!  What have we learned so far?

• We have learned to point to each word as we read.  We call this matching one to one. 
• We have learned to look at the first letter in a tricky word and try to sound it out.  Some of us are even learning to sound out middle and end letters  in words too. We call this reading through a word!
• We have learned that the pictures give us clues.  Pictures help us to understand the story and to work out what tricky words might say.  

We read a story together about Greedy Cat.  The author is Joy Cowley and the illustrator (the person who drew the pictures) is Robyn Belton.

Greedy Cat likes lots of things, but what does Greedy Cat like for dinner?

Lucy's Puppy Comes to School.

We had a special visitor in E6 today.

He had 4 legs.

He was soft, furry and white.

Meet Fred....Lucy's new puppy!

Fred belongs to Lucy and her family. He is a special member of their family group.

Lucy's Mum Jennifer, Lucy's little sister and Lucy brought Fred in to E6 for news today.  Lucy and her Mum told us all about Fred and how they look after him.  

We sat quietly in a circle and watched Fred as he played on his blanket.  We had to try and sit very quietly and still so that Fred didn't get excited or scared of us.  We thought of words that described what Fred felt like and looked like.

Paige thought Fred was so little and cute.

Mrs Graham thought Fred felt warm like a heater!

Hunter said 'Hello Buddy you are so gorgeous!'

Emily thought Fred was snowy white.

Riya thought she felt a bit scared of Fred, but then she thought he was funny when he walked around sniffing our shoes!

Lucy's Mum shared special Fred Facts!

Fred is an English Bull Terrior.

Fred is a boy.

Fred has big floppy puppy paws.

Fred has a very long straight nose.

Fred has triangular shaped eyes. 

Lucy also had lots of information to share with us all about looking after Fred.  We listened carefully while Lucy talked. Lucy told us that:

• Fred has his own special bowl to eat from but he shares a water bowl with Daisy (Lucy's other dog).
• Fred is 8 weeks old.
• Fred is snowy white and has dark eyes.
• Fred has a special crate that he sleeps in with a blanket that goes over the top to keep him warm.
• Fred eats puppy biscuits. 
• Fred will play with Daisy and they will keep each other company.

.... We think Fred loved cuddling Angelina most of all ...

Thank you so much to Lucy and her family for sharing their new puppy with our class for news today.  We were so lucky to meet Fred.

Our Bean Stories

Our beans are growing so quickly!  Lucy's Dad kindly gave us some bamboo sticks so that our beans could climb around them and stand up straight. Each week we draw our bean in our bean diary exactly as we see it.  We have learned that a bean plant has roots, a stem and some huge leaves that we think look like green love hearts.    We try to draw each of these things when we draw in our diary.

We wrote some stories about our beans.  Mrs Graham printed them off and cut them up for us.  We then had to glue our sentence in order so that it made sense.   We drew some beautiful pictures of our beans.  We did a little bit of our picture each day for one week.   We learned that some famous artists take weeks and weeks, and sometimes even years to finish masterpieces that they are proud of!   

We proudly shared our bean pictures and stories at the junior school assembly today.  

What amazing writers and artists we are.          

Keep on reaching high!

We have been talking lots together this week about who we are, what we love doing and what we are good at.   We thought hard about what kind of people we want to be.  
We agreed that in E6 we are a group of learners that want to help each other to learn new things, never give up and always give our best.   Learning is what we have in common!  Learning can be hard work but together we can make it easier and have fun along the way.
Tonight Mrs Graham was looking at a fantastic class blog belonging to Room 1 at Goldfields School in Cromwell.  They shared a link to a great song with an important message!  Mrs Graham thinks it is fantastic for our class too!  Listen carefully to the words and enjoy the tune!
