Happy Holidays E6 Super Stars!

Our year together as the E6 Super Stars 2012 has come to an end.  What a busy and exciting very first year at school.  It has been great fun sharing and celebrating our learning with others on our class blog.

Our Super Stars class blog will stay up so you can sneak back into it at any time to have a look at what we did, or find a song or game you loved.

Room E6 has 17 brand new 5 year olds starting school in February 2013.  You can follow them on their class blog and check out what they are getting up to by clicking on this link....

Term 4 Super Star

Mrs Henderson came to our Junior School Assembly this week to give out this term's special certificates to children who show excellence in all that they do at school.  This means that we give our very best...always!

Dylan is our E6 Term 4 Super Star who always gives his very very best.

We are so proud to have Dylan in our class.
Dylan is very caring and helpful.  If anybody needs a hand with something Dylan is always first on the scene.  He helps teachers and children, not only in his class but all around the school.
Dylan loves to read stories.  He works so hard to read words he knows instantly and quickly.  When words are really tricky Dylan stretches them out like chewing gum!  He does this all by himself.   Dylan also reads aloud with amazing expression.  He is really good at thinking about how the character would sound and then reading the words to us in an interesting voice.  Dylan often makes us laugh and smile.
Dylan always tries very very hard at writing time.  He is a resilient learner.  Even though writing stories is hard work and tiring he never ever gives up.  Dylan has learned to boss his pencil around this year.  He can make his pencil write some amazing letter shapes
Dylan is also a bit of a math-magician.  He can add numbers to 5 super quickly in his head.  He  loves to count in lots of different ways.  Sometimes he skip counts to 200 in tens and we all clap for him!
Dylan is awesome at speaking and reading te reo maori in our classroom.  He knows all the days of the week in Maori and he often helps us out when we do the calendar each day.    He can introduce himself in te reo, and if you ask Dylan "Kei te pehea koe?" he can answer you in lots of different ways!

You are a super star Dylan ...
Tino Pai!

We think you deserve Mrs Henderson's special award this term because no matter what we are doing in the classroom, you are showing excellence, and trying hard to give your very very best...always!

Swimming

Today E6 went swimming with E7 in our school pool.  For lots of us it was our first time trying out our new school pool. Our school pool has just had a makeover.  We loved seeing the brightly coloured fish that have been painted all over the bottom of the pool.  We looked at them through our goggles, and tried to dive down to touch them.

We love swimming!
Remember E6, our swimming days are Monday and Friday.
Bring your togs regardless of the weather and we'll decide at the time if the weather is causing trouble!

Clowns

We have been learning the sound that c and l make when they work together.  We found lots of words that start with 'cl'.  Last Friday we read a funny poem about a clown who likes to wear baggy pants and big floppy shoes.  We designed our own clowns using paper plates and bright sparkly pompom noses!

This week we wrote stories about our Clowns. Come and read our stories and see our fabulous clowns.

We are so proud of our super star writing.  We have hung them on colourful ribbons in our classroom.  We hope you like our stories too.

Our Pizza Fractions Celebration

Friday was a special day in E6 because we got to make Pizzas! Baxter's Mum, and Rayan's Mum came in to help us out.    Riya's Mum and Dad came too.   We are lucky to have such fantastic families to help us out during our special activities in E6.

Bobby Bear loves pizza so we let him get in on the action!

First we wrote the intructions together.
Next we worked out how we would cut up our pizzas so that everyone would
get an equal share.
Rayan's Mum helped us make
Pizza Chef hats to wear and then the pizza making party began!

Riya's Dad and baby brother joined in.
We love having our family come in and see what we are learning!

We showed the Mums how to cut the pizza into halves and quarters so that we could all have a piece.

'
Hunter has one quarter of a whole pizza.
Yummy Yummy!

Riya has one quarter.

Baxter has one quarter too.
We shared our pizzas evenly so that we all got the same amount.

Pizza Parties are so much fun!

Shark Hats

We have been learning the sound that s and h make when they work together.  They are a digraph.  A digraph is 2 letters that make one sound.
We made some 'sh' hats this week.  I spy something sneaky and scary...

Can you see some scary sharks?

Fairy Bread Fractions

We have been learning to identify halves and quarters.  We know that a fraction is a piece of something!

We made fairy bread with our learning buddy.  First we wrote the instructions together.

Then we had to follow our instructions.
We had to work together and co-operate.
Come and look ....

First we had to butter one whole piece of bread.

helping each other

Next we had to carefully shake the sprinkles
all over the bread.

concentration

we made....
one whole piece of fairy bread!

1 piece of Fairy Bread. But 2 children.
How can we share our fairy bread?
Baxter cut the fairy bread in half.
One half for Baxter and one half for Navik.
Baxter and Navik get one half each.
Baxter and Navik get the same amount.
We shared the fairy bread evenly.

We are all happy and smiling because we have shared our fairy bread equally between us.

We all have one half each!

yum ....

yum ...

yum!

We love fairy bread!
