This week Lucy, Hunter, Riya and Rayan have been reading a book called The Ant and the Grasshoppers. It is a fable. A fable is a special story that has a special message. This book was a play. It was our first time reading a play.
We talked about the story lots this week. We used the book to help us find information and answer our questions. We also had to use our thinking and wonder why things happened.
What was the title?
The Ant and the Grasshoppers.
Who were the characters?
A busy Ant and three lazy Grasshoppers.
Where did the story take place?
On a summers day in the garden.
What happened in the story?
The Ant was very busy collecting lots of food for the winter. The Grasshoppers spent all day every day singing and dancing and playing. They were lazy and didn't collect food for the winter.
What happened?
When the cold winter came the Ant had lots of corn to eat, but the Grasshoppers were cold and hungry because they just danced and played all day long and didn't gather any corn.
What was the special message?
We think the special message was that you should do all your work first so that you are organised and prepared, and then you can play after that.
We practiced our play everyday this week. We tried using our interesting voice and thought about how to act just like the ant and the grasshoppers in the story. Mrs Graham helped us make headbands to wear!
We were so excited to perform our play to the class this morning...
Lucy, Rayan and Hunter were the lazy Grasshoppers.
Riya was the busy Ant.
When we finished our play we took a big bow and our
E6 buddies cheered and clapped for us!

ReplyDeleteLooks like everyone learned a great lesson from the book about being prepared and doing things that you need to do. The play looked like a really fun play to watch. Since I live so far away, it is especially fun to see Lucy in her activities at school. Thank you for this great Blog idea.
