World Famous Super Stars in E6!

Have you checked out our map and our visitor tracker?  We've had 4000 visits to our blog since February.  All our families and friends, and other teachers and children at our school and around the world have been checking out our fabulous work and school activities.

Teachers and children in classrooms in Dublin, Ireland have left us comments!  

People from India, Thailand, Vietnam and the Philippines have been looking at and commenting on our fabulous work.  

People throughout Australia keep coming back!
And last but not least - our very own country - Aotearoa.  People from the far South, all the way up to Auckland in the North have been visiting our blog every single day!
  

It is so exciting to share our learning journey with our families and friends.  Our blog has also been a great way to make contact with other children in classrooms around the world.  We loved quadblogging with our friends in Reception Class in Lancashire in the UK during Term One.  


We can all be very proud that so many people keep clicking on our blog to find out what we have been up to in our classroom in Lower Hutt!  Lets keep on shining E6 Super Stars!

Football Stars!

Finally today the sun shined and we got outside for our New Entrant and Year One Football Tournament.  We spent the afternoon cheering each other on, scoring goals, chasing the ball and running, running, running!  Here is a sneak peek at a few photos showing how much fun we had.  The teachers will share their photos with each other over the next few days and we will make sure we put up more photos that show us all involved...watch this space!

Well done E6 Soccer Super Stars.  You all joined in with huge smiles and gave it a go.   We were so resilient. We didn't give up.  We chased and chased and chased the ball right till the last whistle!  

The Tiger Who Came to E6 for Morning Tea

We read a story in E6 called "The Tiger Who Came To Tea", written and illustrated by Judith Kerr.   Sophie and her Mummy have tea with a Tiger!  The Tiger eats all the food and drinks all the drink.  Sophie, and her Mummy and Daddy have to go out to a fancy cafe for a yummy dinner!


We enjoyed it so much that we asked Mrs Graham to read it every day for a whole week!  Mrs Graham didn't mind at all because this was one of her favourite books when she was 5 years old!


We wondered as a class what we would give a Tiger to eat if one knocked on our classroom door.   We used our green hat thinking to come up with possible food.   We had lots of yummy ideas, so we recorded them on our brainstorm.  

We wrote a story together called "The Tiger Who Came To E6 for Morning Tea".    We drew some very fancy orange and stripey tigers to go with our story.   We are publishing our story to put on our classroom wall.  Have a look at our amazing tigers below. 

 First we used chalk to carefully make our tiger outline.  Then we used orange and black pastels to add some colour.  We finished off by brushing our tiger with some bright yellow dye.

What amazing illustrators we have in E6.  I wonder what you would give a tiger if one came to your place for tea?  Can you leave a comment and tell us? We'd love to know!

Science Week

This week we have been celebrating National Science Week.  Yesterday we all became Scientists for the afternoon.  We visited different classes in the school to do some investigating and experimenting.

I wonder if you have told your families about the science activities you participated in?

This morning our buddy class A2, came over to help us make Bubbling Wizard's Brew!  What excitement!  Our buddies helped us follow the instructions and make our magical mixtures.  Check out our slide show to see how much fun we had exploring, investigating and experimenting with science!

   

We discovered that.... 

• When the vinegar and the baking soda mix together they 'react' with each other and change.  
• The mixture made lots of tiny bubbles of gas.  The bubbles frothed up the washing-up liquid.  
• The mixture made lots of magical frothy foam pour out of the top of the jar just like a wizards brew!

The Prime Minister visits Eastern Hutt School

During week two of this term we were very excited to welcome Mr John Key to Eastern Hutt School.    In E6 we learned that Mr Key is the Prime Minister of New Zealand.  That was a bit tricky for us to understand, so we had a discussion about what a Prime Minister is.  

Angelina said "I think it's a bit like a boss. He might be the boss of the whole of New Zealand."

Hunter said "I think he is even the boss of Australia maybe".

Charlize said "That is just like my Mum.  She is a boss.  She is the boss of everyone at home and at her work and she can be very bossy because she is so good at it!"

Mrs Graham said "You are right, he is a bit like a boss, and he is also like a leader.  He makes very important decisions for our country, and he tries very hard to be the best leader he can be.  It's like when you are the star of the day in E6 you have to be a great leader, and you do jobs and help make sure our classroom is a safe and happy place - that is sort of what Mr Key does for New Zealand!"

Rayan wondered "Is he even the boss of Auckland, and the boss of our school?"

Riya asked "is being Prime Minister like being a Prince or a King?  What do Prime Ministers wear?  Do you get to wear a crown?'

We are very lucky to have Mr Key come to see our fabulous school.   I wonder when you are grown up if you will remember the day the Prime Minister of New Zealand visited you at school when you were 5 years old?

 The Kapa Haka group gave our Prime Minister a wonderful welcome.  

We sang our school song with pride for Mr Key.

 Mrs Henderson, our principal welcomed Mr Key to our school.

 The senior students asked Mr Key lots of interesting questions that 

the children at our school had thought of.

Mr Key told us a story about a crocodile.

E6 were very lucky to sit in the front row at assembly.  You all sat very tidy and still, and used your fantastic manners and showed him a great deal of respect.  What a fabulous audience you were!  

Get Ready and Get Set for Term 2!

I hope you all had a fantastic holiday and had some fun at home.  We were so lucky to have so many beautiful sunny Autumn days.  I can't wait to hear all about what you have been busy doing with your families and friends.

I can't wait to see you all in the morning ready for our first day back in E6.  Bobby Bear can't wait to hear all your news as well!

Grandparents Morning!

We had a great time in E6 today.  Our Grandparents came to spend the morning with us.  We showed them around our classroom and shared some of our learning activities with them.  We went to the hall and did some singing for them.  E6 stood in the very front row and ....WOW! What fantastic singing.  We remembered all the actions to our favourite song 'Bright Star'.


After singing we went back to the classroom and our Grandparents read some stories to us....

We asked our wonderful Grandparents to help us make some Easter Bunny Ears.  Our grandparents were super star helpers!  They all helped with cutting and glueing down the cotton balls.  We couldn't have been so quick and clever without their help.

What a fantastic time we had with our Grandparents.  Some of us were sad to say Goodbye when it was time for them to go!   We will have to invite them back to E6 soon!
